Yucan Respite!
The past year, we’ve organised a variety of respite trips designed to give our young carers a well-earned break from their daily responsibilities. From bouncing around at Flip Out to taking in the views from the London Eye, and even racing around the track during a fun-filled go-karting day, these moments have been all about creating joy, laughter, and connection.

One especially memorable highlight was a creative workshop with Brazilian filmmaker and children’s illustrator Ana Gracia, joined by Young Carer policy researcher John Bangs. Inspired by her book Young Carers in Bunny Land, our talented young carers helped co-design characters for her next picture book, bringing their own experiences and imagination to the page.

These experiences were more than just trips—they’re meaningful opportunities for young carers to feel valued, supported, and free to be themselves. We’re proud to keep creating safe, fun spaces where young people can thrive.

YUCAN Work Experience Programme – A Summer to Remember!
Last July, we proudly wrapped up our YUCAN Work Experience Programme, supporting 18 incredible young people with paid placements across a wide range of industries—including youth work, architecture, banking, and events.

With the generous support of Foundationforfuturelondon and the incredible collaboration of thearcinitiative and sirlute who helped deliver our empowering YUCAN Level Up course, this programme gave young people a real step forward in their personal and professional journeys.

We’re so grateful to all our partners for believing in our mission. The success of this programme reminds us just how powerful community support can be.

The YUCAN team is already excited for what’s next—because this is just the beginning!

Yucan shine is our new project inspired by our 'Young Carer Space' pilot programme funded by Westfield East Bank, Creative Futures Fund.

Yucan Shine is a 10-week well-being programme for children in primary schools in East London. Working collaboratively with our partners, we are facilitating engaging workshops that address and tackle issues young child carers face today, like managing difficult emotions, stress and isolation, whilst providing fun respite opportunities.

Participants will also learn child-friendly first aid, equipping them with confidence and potential in their self-initiative within their caring role.

Introducing Yucan Thrive!

We've teamed up with amazing young carers in East London to co-create a brand-new project about well-being and respite support for teenagers and kids caring for loved ones. Yucan Thrive is all about giving these incredible young people the platform to express themselves and lead in change, despite the challenges they face every day.

The London Legacy Development Corporation funds our brand new 2023 programme.

Our Young Carer Space project is to address the issues and lack of support for child young carers because they are the least supported, and lack the confidence in speaking up for themselves to grown-ups.

This project will include workshops on young carers’ rights, creative care planning, fun competitions and much more!

This project is funded by Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund, Westfield Stratford City and Foundation for Future London.

In 2022, we were awarded the ‘Ideas and Pioneers grant by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to support us in our Yucan Young Carers Cultural Awareness research project.

This research project is an in-depth education on the social, cultural and economical disadvantages of young carers from minority ethnic groups within the UK.

This is a 12-month project that aims to assist us in addressing and breaking stigmas associated with being a young person balancing cultural expectations of having responsibilty.
